Hunt Process Concrete Surface Retarder Hunt Process - HPS - HRWR - SP Hunt Process "AIR-IN"Air-IN is an economical high quality air entraining agent for concrete, designed and controlled to a uniform concentration to assure consistent performance. Air-IN is furnished ready to use in 55-gallon drums. Properties imparted by Air-In to plastic and hardened concrete: 1. Increased Workability This increase is achieved through a lubricating action of the small air bubbles which act a minute ball bearings and render the fresh concrete more mobile. 2. Decreased Segregation The increased cohesion of the concrete mix retards segregation to the extent that air-entrained concrete can be conveyed on belts or in non-agitating trucks with out detrimental effect. 3. Greatly Reduced Bleeding The minute air bubbles act in a manner similar to that of fine aggregate in decreasing both bleeding rate and bleeding capacity. 4. Increased Durability of Set Concrete Air entrainment reduces cracking and spalling of set concrete by providing greater free space within the concrete; thereby minimizing the effects of internal expansion due to freezing and thawing. 5. Decreased Permeability The bubbles of entrained air do not increase permeability- do not lessen water-tightness; but rather their random placing tends to terminate capillary tubes and to reduce the flow of water through these tubes. Specifications Air-In meets the current requirements of the following Specifications: A.S.T.M. C-260 Corps of Engineers CRD C-13 A.A.S.H.T.O. M-154 Air-In should be added to the mix with the water. The amount of Air-In to entrain the desired amount of air will vary, depending on the grading and particle shape of the aggregate; the richness of the mix, mixing time, temperature and slump of the concrete. The amount can be accurately and quickly determined by use of the Press-Ur-Meter. Adjustments can then be made on the Air-In Dispenser. To obtain 3 to 6 percent air, start with one-half to three-quarters ounce of Air-In per cwt. of cement. Hunt Process "AIR-IN-XT"Air-In-XT is an economical high quality air entraining agent for concrete, designed and controlled to a uniform concentration to assure consistent performance. Air-In-XT is furnished ready-to-use in 55-gallon drums. Properties Imparted by Air-In-XT to plastic and hardened concrete: 1. Hunt Process Concrete Surface RetarderHunt Process Surface Retarder has good spraying characteristics. It is designed to provide an economical yet effective method of cleaning surfaces and exposing aggregate on horizontal joints on large concrete structures or other types of flat work. Application: Time, Rate, Method Hunt Process Surface Retarder should be applied to fresh concrete as soon as final screeding has been completed at a coverage rate of from 200 to 250 square feet per gallon. Simple pressure spray equipment, either hand or power operated, with a fan type nozzle is recommended for uniform and efficient application. Curing and Cleaning of Joints Soon after application of Hunt Process Surface Retarder curing should be started. The surface must be kept continuously moist by sealing with Hunt Process Membrane Curing Compound or covering with wet burlap and sprinkling with water. Time of removing the retarded mortar will depend upon the method used and environmental conditions. Generally if low water pressure and brooms are used the surface should be removed within a few hours. If more forceful methods are available this time can be extended. The actual limits can only be determined by inspecting the concrete surface itself. Trial appliacations in the field will best show the results that can be achieved. We have field engineers familiar with the use of this material who will be glad to help tailor its use to your particular application. "Water-Reducing, Cement-Dispersing, Set-Control Admixture for Concrete" HPS-R is a compound essentially of highly refined, modified, lignosulfonate, rigidly controlled at each manufacturing step to insure uniform quality and performance. HPS-R complies with A.S.T.M. Specification C-494, Corps of Engineers Specification C-87 and A.A.S.H.T.O. Specification M-194. Properties Imparted To Plastic Concrete Dispersion- Reduces interparticle attraction of cement particle in mix water. Workability- Increased workability at lower water cement ration. Water Reduction- Up to 20% reduction in mix water. Air Entrainment- Enhances the performance of air-entraining additives. Reduces Bleeding- Finishing time reduced. Surface laitance reduced. Reduces Segregation- Insures proper distribution of placed mix components. Controlled Retardation- Allows more flexibility in scheduling the placing and finishing of concrete. Extends vibration limit as needed, reduces possibility of cold joints. Controls internal temperature rise and maximum temperature due to heat of hydration. Properties Imparted to Hardened Concrete Higher compressive and flexural strength at all ages. Increased bond to steel. Increased durability. Reduced drying shrinkage. Denser, more impermeable concrete. HPS-R is furnished as a 40% solids solution. Recommended dosage for normal concreting operation is 5 to 8 fluid ounces of the solution/cwt. cement. The material should be dispensed into the mix water. HPS-R is compatible with sulfonate or vinsol type air-entraining agents and calcium chloride, but should be added separately to the mix water. For specific applications, contact us as we have experienced field engineers familiar with all types of concrete operations and who will be glad to discuss your problems with you. Hunt Process-HPS-HRWR-SPHPS-HRWR is composed of high-molecular-weight, condensed-naphthalene sulfonate, rigidly controlled at each manufacturing step to insure uniform quality and performance. HPS-HRWR complies with ASTM Specification C-494 for Types F and G. Properties Imparted to Plastic Concrete: Dispersing- Promotes the separation or deflocculation of the cement particles by overcoming the cohesive forces that attract them; thus causing the concrete to flow much easier. This effect is called PLASTICIZING. Water Reduction - Up to 30% reduction in mix water. Reduces segregation - Insures proper distribution of placed mix components even at high slumps.. Properties Imparted to Hardened Concrete: Higher compressive and flexural strengths at all ages. Possible reduction in curing time by precasters by 50% and still achieve desired compressive strength. High early strength can be achieved with Type I cement in lieu of Type III. Helps eliminate cavities and honeycombed finish after forms are stripped. HPS-HRWR is furnished as a 40% active aqueous solution. Recommended dosage rate is 8 to 25 fl. oz. of the solution per cwt./cement. For best results, HPS-HRWR should be added to the mix two minutes prior to pouring. Mixing periods of 1 to 2 minutes will be sufficient for efficient mixing 4 to 7 minutes for average truck mixing. HPS-HRWR is compatible with other water-reducing, set control admixtures and air-entraining admixtures, but should be added separately to the mix. As with all high range water-reducers, HPS-HRWR has possible inherent problems, such as, rapid slump loss. We recommend that you contact us regarding its use as we have experienced technical representatives familiar with all types of concrete operations who are available for assistance in your use of our products.
